Director Statement
Grandma’s Rose (Trandafirul lui Buni) is a short docu-fiction diary film, a love letter to my Romanian grand-mother. Blending home VHS tapes with fiction filmmaking, this film explores grief and loss through the unraveling of a grand-daughter’s lost relationship with her grand-mother. It uses real audio archives of my grand-mother as she realizes that she isn’t all there anymore. Trandafirul lui Buni meaning Grandma’s Rose is the nickname my grand-mother used to give me.
